Some notes on grants and their names:
- Every "Grant" is tied to a "Funding Source",
which provides the funds for the grant.
- A funding source is either
- a University Fund Account, or
- a personal Accounts Receivable Account (aka a "U-Bill").
- When a Funding Source is created, a "top-level" grant is
simultaneously created which references this Funding Source.
- This top-level grant is initially named
Account#:CreatorsNetID
- The top-level grant can be used directly or
it can serve as the parent grant for further grants.
For example, a professor might create a Fund Source,
and then create sub-grants of it for each of their graduate students.
- Every student and employee has a built-in grant named ubill_netid
which they pay for personally through the accounts receivable (U-Bill) process.
- Every currently enrolled student has a built-in grant named
subsidy_netid which is funded via Computer Fee Funds.
The amount available here varies by College and Department.
