Your password is your protection against others damaging your files, reading your personal mail, causing trouble or spending money under your name.

Iowa State will NEVER ask for your password or other confidential information via email -- ANY such request is a SCAM and should never be answered.

Passwords must be at least 8 characters long (and no more than 127). Passwords must contain:

  • at least one lowercase letter (a-z), and
  • at least one uppercase letter (A-Z), and
  • at least one numeric digit (0-9).
They may also contain punctuation and spaces.

DO: Choose a password you can remember without writing it down.
Change your password often (once you get your account).
Remember that you are responsible for actions (and charges) committed from your account.
DON'T: Let anyone, including friends, know your password!
Choose a password someone who knows you could guess, or a word from the dictionary, or a name from rock bands, comics, tv shows, etc.
