Sponsored Net-IDs are available to provide temporary access to select university IT services for a specific business purpose. For more information about the approval and renewal process, see the IT standard/best practice, “Sponsored Net-IDs”.
Types of Sponsored Net-IDs include:
- Affiliate: Sponsor a new Net-ID for a person who is neither a student or employee of Iowa State but is still be eligible to receive a Net-ID as long as they are affiliated with the university in some way. This affiliation can be as a visiting scholar, scientist, or researcher, or other university business purpose, as determined by an Administrative Officer or their delegate.
- Role: Sponsor a new Net-ID for a university business function (e.g., a "departmental" Net-ID").
- Secondary: Sponsor a new Net-ID for a student employee (typically for the purposes of an Exchange mailbox/calendar).
Additionally, an Existing Net-ID of a departing student or employee may be converted to an Affiliate Net-ID where a university business purpose exists to maintain their Net-ID beyond their formal separation from the university.
It is expected that the sponsored Net-ID will be suspended when the business purpose has been fulfilled. The Net-ID suspension procedure is documented in the “Net-ID: Suspension Procedure” Knowledge Base article and in the Special Considerations section of the “E-mail for Faculty and Staff” Knowledge Base article.
